When morning came, Raveena awoke to find both Kiella and Lorith still sound asleep on the floor of Lorith’s hut. She smiled to herself as she remembered what had transpired the night before. She stood up and made her way to the door, careful to be as quiet as possible so as not to wake the still slumbering beauties. She opened the door slowly to make sure it wouldn’t creak, and then slipped out and silently closed it behind her. When she turned back from the door to head into the village, eager to see whether it was still quiet or awakened and aroused, she was quite startled.

“What have you done with my daughter?”

It was Zorin standing before her who uttered these words. His eyes burned. Their glare cast a cold wave all over and through Raveena. Gone immediately was the happy glow from the previous night’s delights. Zorin pierced her with his eyes, and insisted on an immediate response.

“I’m sorry. What do you mean?”

“She is not as she was. She is not as she was at all. She is greatly changed. Whereas she was once a luminous being, full of light and endless joy, now she is engulfed by a dark cloud. One which hangs over her, smothering her in its cold wake. What have you done? How have you changed her so, in such short time?”

Raveena didn’t know what to say. She knew any answer she could give would take some time to explain. She asked him if they might go somewhere else, so that they could talk without disturbing those still sleeping in the hut.

“Fine.” Zorin’s angry demeanor softened just a bit. It was hard for him to stay so cold for a long period of time. It just wasn’t his nature. He let go of a little bit of the coldness he had greeted her with, but was careful to replace it with no warmth. He turned and motioned towards a trail that led away from the center of town, and stepped aside to allow Raveena to head that way. She followed the path, and Zorin walked along beside her.

Eventually, they reached a beautiful spot next to a small brook. They were surrounded by thick trees on all sides except for the breaks where the brook and the pathway entered. There was a stone on either side of the brook that each made a perfect bench to sit on, and a set of stones to step on to cross from one side to the other. The brook itself was only a few feet wide, so they could easily sit across from each other and hear one another. They each picked a side and sat. Zorin’s demeanor now turned from anger to concern. Clearly, he was extremely worried about his daughter, and was desperate for answers.

“I know what you mean” began Raveena. “I’m aware that she is not as she was when she joined us. I’m so sorry for the toll that all of this has taken on her.
